Visiting Professor
Dr Jon Elphick is a Chartered Engineer, IET Fellow, INCOSE member, and RSA Fellow. He is recognised as an expert in the field of Railway Systems and Systems Engineering, who has 25 years’ industrial experience and has made major contributions to railways around the world. Jon’s successful approach to systems thinking combines his instinctively holistic worldview with excellent technical, communication, analytical and emotional intelligence skills. As the HitachiRail Senior Director responsible for global Rolling Stock Testing, Jon experienced the reality of railway testing. Jon secured a RAEng Industrial Fellowship for a member of his HitachiRail team, which resulted in ground-breaking digital testing research, conducted with the University of Birmingham. Digital-Ready Assurance is a cutting-edge development that builds on this work and aligns with the Digital Transformation focus that Jon now has as a Director at WSP. As a school Governor, Jon has been inspired by the mature attitudes that the students have towards difference. Many great engineering leaders and innovators are neurodivergent, so it is vital that our universities and workplaces welcome and embrace neurodivergence.
