Visiting Professor
Dr Ryan McGlen has a PhD in two-phase heat transfer technology and is co-author of the text book ‘Heat Pipes Theory, design and Applications’. Dr McGlen has over 20 years industrial experience in development of bespoke electronics thermal management technology. He is Advanced Technology Manager within Boyd, leading R&D activities in electronics thermal management and additive manufacturing, predominantly for space applications. His current major industrial R&D activities include an ESA activity to develop a pilot ammonia heat pipe pilot volume manufacturing capability and development of novel heat pipe technology for high-end automotive applications. As a visiting professor at Newcastle University, building of teaching materials around high-tech R&D project examples and industrial definition of student projects, will broaden the students understanding of leadership and project management skills, required to develop as future leaders, early in their careers. Involvement as a panel member in the new student business pitch events, allows the students go gain experience in presenting technical proposals to industry.
