Zurich Engineering is one of the UK’s leading providers of inspection and consultancy services. They deliver engineering solutions for businesses and organisations of all types and sizes, from small dentists to large automotive manufacturers, to high street store chains.
ILP graduates from Zurich Engineering worked together to improve recruitment and onboarding processes to boost the attractiveness of engineer surveyor roles to underrepresented groups in engineering. The team worked to improve the inclusivity of referral processes, CV reviews, job adverts, interview panels, inductions, uniforms and staff equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) training and supporting documents.

The Zurich Engineering team included:
- Daniel Meekin, Mid-career leader (Project Lead)
- Charley Lee, Early-career leader
- Marina Kinsey, HR Leader
- Dominic Dawson, Senior-career leader

In the future, I would like the engineering industry to change in the following way: I would like engineering to be a viable career choice for absolutely everybody and for them to remain within the engineering field.
Daniel Meekin, Senior Engineer, Mid-career Leader (Project Lead)
“A highlight or something I am particularly proud of from my time on the ILP was probably the most impactful for me during this programme. During the first ILP engagement with other mid-career leaders, many shared their lived experiences, which underlined the importance of this initiative led by the Academy. Our group clicked immediately during this session, which laid the foundations for the programme, our company projects, and activities that we work on collaboratively today.
"One way that I show up in my workplace as an inclusive leader is by doing my best to ensure that individuals can be who they really are, and by not being afraid to change or speak up against anything that goes against this, be it procedures, guidance, behaviours, etc. Competence and confidence with this undoubtedly improved during the course of the ILP through the development of a deeper understanding of EDI during the programme's 'learn phase'."
Charley Lee, Engineering Surveyor, Early-career Leader
“A highlight of the ILP for me was being able to not just develop my knowledge of EDI and being an inclusive leader from the Academy and all their amazing partners, but also from like-minded individuals on the programme looking to make positive changes within the industry. Another highlight was being able to have this opportunity to learn and develop while also making positive changes within our individual companies and seeing those changes happen in such a short space of time.
“In the future, I’d like to see pathways into engineering and STEM careers for young people, especially from underrepresented groups, to be focused on and be further developed.
“Everyone has a role to play in making the industry a more inclusive environment. We have the ability to change the industry, using diverse perspectives for positive change.”

I drive change within my workplace through different EDI initiatives and programmes to make positive changes within the workplace.
