A glimpse into our work

The STEM Education Landscape

An ageing workforce means that hundreds of thousands of skilled technician and professional engineering roles will need replacing over the next ten years.

But the supply of individuals into engineering occupations is not keeping pace with demand and the workforce is not representative of the modern UK.

Read more about the why and what the engineering community is doing about it in our STEM Education Landscape report.

Thinking Like An Engineer

Engineering skills are valuable throughout the UK workforce, with demand in the UK for the skills and attributes that engineers develop through their education and training continuing and increasing.

These skills are in demand not just in engineering industries but across the whole economy, in sectors as diverse as healthcare, media, entertainment and sport.

Read more about how engineers think, and how we can redesign the education system to encourage this 'habit of mind' in our Thinking like an engineer report.

This is Engineering

Alongside education policy work, the Academy in partnership with EngineeringUK, runs This is Engineering, a multi-year campaign to encourage more young people, from all backgrounds, to consider engineering careers.

A look at Engineering’s contribution to society can be seen in the 2016 Engineering in Society report.
