Commenting on the newly announced International Science Partnerships Fund, Professor Dame Sarah Springman DBE FREng, Chair of the Royal Academy of Engineering International Committee, said:
“We welcome the government’s initial announcement about this portion of the ISPF funding but we very much hope that government will soon be able to confirm the larger ODA element that is so important for the UK contribution to global sustainability and development. This is particularly important to the Academy’s work with partners across Africa and other emerging economies to build engineering education, innovation and entrepreneurial capacity. We look forward to continuing to work with international partners to link the UK’s best engineers and innovators together with their global peers.
“Together with the wider global research and innovation community, we hope that the UK’s association with Horizon Europe will not be further delayed. We would like to see ISPF complementing the work of Horizon Europe, just as the Newton Fund and other scientific partnership funds complemented the UK’s previous membership of European Framework programmes.”
