Professor Stephan Jefferis is distinguished for his work crossing the boundaries of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. He has an international reputation for analyses of unexpected and unusual issues in geotechnics, especially in relation to chemical and microbiological processes in the ground. His career spans academia and industry, and he runs his own consultancy providing advice on a host of important projects. He has expertise on advanced techniques for slurry cut-off walls, use of polymer fluids in geotechnical applications, and for remediation of contaminated land. As a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, he contributes generously to education and research supervision. He also contributes to the work of professional societies.
