Professor Paul Shearing is internationally distinguished for his academic leadership and pioneering research and innovation in the X-ray characterisation of electrochemical batteries. These have achieved breakthroughs in fundamental insight into electrode behaviour, and established international benchmark techniques for battery design and safety. He holds the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Battery Technologies and was a founding investigator of the UK’s Faraday Institution. At the University of Oxford, he is the inaugural Chair in Sustainable Energy Engineering and the Director of the ZERO Institute for zero-carbon energy research.
