Dr Waguih Ishak FREng
Adjunct Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, Stanford University, USA
Dr Ishak has made exceptional contributions to invent/develop/manufacture optical technologies for communications, consumers and computations. He created global research teams that developed more than 20 lightwave instruments, which were critical to usher in fibre optic communications in the 1980s. Dr Ishak's teams developed and manufactured the world’s first commercial vertical cavity surface emitting lasers, VCSEL, invented the world’s first laser mouse as a computer pointing device (multi billions sold), created the first parallel optical interconnects modules (100 million sold), and also developed the world’s first parallel optical interconnects at 120 Gb/s for computer interconnects and the 40 Gb/s active optical cables. Waguih is currently Adjunct Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University, and former Vice President of Corning Incorporated, Avago (Broadcom), Agilent Technologies and Hewlett-Packard.
