Professor Mark Girolami is an inspirational global research leader in interdisciplinary data science, computational statistics and machine learning. His data-centric research outcomes are successfully applied across a broad range of engineering disciplines. Transformational applications include: the world’s first 3D printed bridge; accelerated Rolls-Royce aero-engine component design; tools facilitating Covid-19 navigation with Transport for London and reforming the National Air Traffic service; the UK’s first remotely monitored Network Rail bridge; patented ATM currency validation technology; and sustainable underground agriculture. Central to many of these applications is the emerging digital twinning technology he is pioneering in a wide range of domains.
