Professor Manish Chhowalla FREng
Goldsmiths’ Professor of Materials Science, University of Cambridge
Professor Manish Chhowalla is a pioneer in the synthesis and application of hard carbon films which have amorphous structure with predominantly diamond-like bonding. These films have been applied with nanometre-scale thicknesses on devices ranging from razor blades and magnetic disk read heads to corrosion-resistant bathroom fittings. He is currently Goldsmiths Professor of Materials Science, a position he was appointed to in recognition of his outstanding and pioneering work on 2D materials and their applications in electronics, optics and catalysis.
