Chief Executive, Oxford Instruments plc

After an early academic career in surface science instrumentation and measurement, Ian Barkshire moved into industry, at GEC-Marconi Materials and later at Oxford Instruments. Throughout his career, Ian has driven the development of key enabling technologies and products for the practical measurement and characterisation of materials down to the atomic and molecular level.

After several years as a Managing Director, Divisional Head and Group Technical Director, Ian is now Chief Executive of Oxford Instruments plc, a leading provider of high-tech products and services to the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities. In his time at Oxford Instruments Ian has led numerous projects, winning three Queens Awards for Innovation and a finalist for the RAEng MacRobert Award.
