Professor Geoffrey Gobert
Geoffrey Gobert is Professor of Molecular Parasitology and Director of Internationalisation at the School of Biological Sciences, Queen’s University Belfast.
Professor Gobert's research includes improving therapeutics and diagnostics for parasites, while his current work includes helminth (worm) diseases of zoonotic importance such as schistosomiasis and fascioliasis. He has over 120 peer-reviewed publications and is Special Issues Editor of Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology.
He is particularly interested in seeking ways to use DNA and protein technologies to provide better tools for the management of helminth disease and the wider biodiversity of agricultural settings; both within Northern Ireland and other endemic regions of the world.
He received funding through the Academy’s Frontiers programme for improved diagnostics, using lateral flow and microchips, for important parasitic diseases of bovines.
