Connecting Teachers

Essex

I started my career in 1991 as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer with ICI Acrylics in Darwen, Lancashire and then had a varied few years working on European business system projects and project management. In 1994 I moved to the South of England and worked as a project engineer with a water treatment company.

After a career break, in 2005 I decided to retrain as a maths teacher. I am now the Director of STEM at Clacton Coastal Academy, teaching maths and science and a member of the Executive Team.

Young people in this area do not always have the opportunities to understand what engineering is all about as there is no large industry on their doorstep. I hope the network will make those opportunities more real to them through the use of STEM ambassadors and as teachers become more aware of opportunities there are in STEM careers.
